Florida High School Basketball - Wakulla nipped by Franklin County
December 7, 2010: Eastpoint, FL 32322 The Franklin County Seahawks tipped the visiting Wakulla War Eagles basketball team by a final score of 71-66 in Tuesday's non-league game.
In their next game, the Seahawks face the Wewahitchka Gators (Wewahitchka, FL) in a 2A District 3 game, on Friday, December 10. Franklin County will attempt to move on its 1-3 season record.
With the defeat, Wakulla moves to 0-4 on the year. The War eagles host Lincoln (Tallahassee, FL) to face the Trojans in a non-league game on Thursday, December 9. The Trojans enter the game with a record of 3-2. Lincoln lost 77-58 in their recent non-league game against Rickards (Tallahassee, FL)
First Quarter
The Seahawks started slow as they gave up 26 first quarter points and turned the ball over multiple times.
Second Quarter
The 2nd quarter was a different story as the Seahawks started to settle in for their first home game of the season. Chance Buffkin came off the bench and hit back to back three pointers and Adam Joseph was a force off the bench to keep the Seahawks within striking distance at halftime 29-36.
Third Quarter
In the 3rd quarter it was all defense for the Seahawks as they tightened up and held Wakulla to only 7 points and cut the lead to 3 by the end of the quarter.
Fourth Quarter
The fourth quarter was a war as each basket was a battle. Dre Robinson was the man of the quarter with 5 of 6 from the 3-point line as he helped shift the momentum to the home team. Wakulla hit free throws and the Seahawks found ways to get the ball to Robinson. With 24 seconds left in the game and the Seahawks down 3 Coach Bloom called timeout to set up Dalin Modican for an easy lay-up and then the Seahawks fouled. Wakulla went 1 of 2 from the line and it was all Modican to the basket as he tied the game with under 3 seconds to send it into OT.
Overtime
In overtime Marcus Allen hit a huge 3 to take the lead and followed it with a lay-up. Modican and Winfield also added a lay-up and a free throw each to seal the win for the Seahawks. The Seahawks travel to Wewa for their first district game of the year Friday night.
