Game Summary
The Hornets battled the Spartans for the West Central District Championship Saturday at Kitsap County Fairgrounds. Brandon Henke, pitching in relief for 5 innings kept the Sumner batters off balance and gave the Hornets a shot at the victory. Sumner scored in the bottom of the first when the lead off hitter singled, advanced to 2b on a ground ball and was driven in by a single. With the bases loaded and two outs, starting pitcher Sean Klapperich induced a fly ball to center field to end the inning. The teams then matched zeroes for 4 innings until the top of the 6th. White River picked up a run when lead off batter Mitchell Webster singled and advanced to 2b on a passed ball. Cody Cloud grounded out to the pitcher, Dustin France struck out, and Zach Rohrbach singled to score Webster. Sumner would pick up what was the winning run in the bottom of the 6th. A two out infield single followed by a stolen base and a fielding error on the next batter plated run #2. 1-2-3 7th ended the game.
