California High School Softball - Torrey Pines gets by Escondido
May 8, 2009: Escondido, CA 92026 The Torrey Pines Falcons got by the host Escondido Cougars softball squad by a final score of 6-5 in Friday's league battle.
The Falcons (19-5) will now prepare for their battle against Mission Hills (San Marcos, CA). The Grizzlies go into the Avocado battle with a 10-15 record. In their last battle, Mission Hills was edged by La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad, CA), 3-1, in a league battle.
The Cougars now possess a 6-8 record. They play next when they host Fallbrook for a Avocado battle on Wednesday, May 13.
Game Summary
The Torrey Pines Falcons scored 3 runs all with 2 outs in the top of the 7th inning to defeat the Escondido Cougars 6-5 last Friday in Avocado league action at Escondido. Torrey Pines trailed 5-3 with 1 out in the 7th when they got back to back walks to begin the rally. After the next hitter flew out for the 2nd out of the inning the Falcon runners advanced on a double steal of 2nd and 3rd base as the pitch bounced away from the catcher witht he runners going. Alexa Nasland then delivered a sharp single to short stop and the tying run scored when the SS overthrew first base on the hit. Nasland advanced to 2nd on the throw home. After a walk, a clutch game winning single was delivered by Junior Kristen Filicia to cap the scoring. Freshmen pitcher Lauren Hynes who was bothered by a bad back and who issued 6 walks came back into the game to retire Escondido in the 7th to nail down the excting win for Torrey Pines. Escondido falls to 14-10 overall and 3-3 in the Avocado league while Torre
