January 7, 2011: Shreveport, LA 71104 Fans at Friday's non-league challenge between the Byrd Yellow Jackets (Shreveport, LA) and the visiting Benton Tigers (Benton, LA), saw Byrd's basketball squad hold off Benton by a score of 32-27.
With the victory, Byrd improves its record to 19-3 on the campaign. The Yellow Jackets host Natchitoches Central (Natchitoches, LA) to battle the Chiefs in a non-league challenge on Friday, January 14. The Chiefs come into the challenge with a record of 9-9. Natchitoches Central won 67-53 in their recent non-league challenge against Richwood (Monroe, LA)
Next up, the Tigers battle the Haughton Buccaneers (Haughton, LA) in a 4A District 1 challenge, on Tuesday, January 11. Benton will attempt to improve on its 12-10 season record. The Buccaneers come into the challenge with a 5-7 record after their 55-26 non-league loss to Ruston (Ruston, LA).
