Utah High School Basketball - American Fork nudges Lehi
January 13, 2012: Lehi, UT 84043 In Friday's league outing, the American Fork Cavemen (American Fork, UT) basketball squad edged the host Lehi Pioneers (Lehi, UT), by a margin of 62-58.
The Cavemen (10-1) will now prepare for their outing against Riverton (Riverton, UT). The Silverwolves go into the 5A Region 4 outing with a 7-5 record. In their last outing, Riverton was tipped by Lone Peak (Highland, UT), 57-39, in a league outing.
The Pioneers now own a 8-4 record. They take the field next when they travel to Bingham for a 5A Region 4 outing on Tuesday, January 17. Lehi will encounter a Miners squad coming off a 47-43 league loss to Pleasant Grove (Pleasant Grove, UT). The Miners record now stands at 5-10.
First Quarter
Lehi got off to a fast start and as Colton Colledge scored 9 points in the first quarter. Lehi led most of the quarter and American Fork came back to lead 13 to 12 to end the period. All five starters scored for AF. The gym was full and we were in for a great game.
Second Quarter
American Fork hit three 3 point shots in the second quarter and held Lehi to just 8 points. The score at the end of the first half is AF 28 and Lehi 20.
Third Quarter
American Fork increased the lead to 12 by outscoring Lehi 17 to 13 in the third quarter.
Fourth Quarter
American Fork maintained the lead through most of the last quarter but Lehi made a late game run and cut the lead to just 2 points at one time. In the end Lehi came up short and lost by the final score of 62 to 58. American Fork was led by 18 points from Zach Hunter and 15 from Quincy Bair. Colton Colledge led all scorers with 23 points and Blake Cleveringa scored 13 for Lehi. Both teams made 17 2 point shots and both teams hit 4 threes. Lehi shot 12 for 19 from the foul line while AF got 8 more attempts hitting 16 of them.
