New York High School Baseball - Sutherland defeats Honeoye Falls-Lima
May 11, 2012: Honeoye Falls, NY 14472 Spectators at Friday's league battle between the Sutherland Knights (Pittsford, NY) and the host Honeoye Falls-Lima Cougars (Honeoye Falls, NY), saw Sutherland's baseball squad knock off Honeoye Falls-Lima by a count of 8-3.
Coming up next, the Knights play the Batavia Blue Devils (Batavia, NY) in a Section 5 Monroe County III battle, on Saturday, May 12. Sutherland will attempt to move on its 15-2 season record. The Blue Devils enter the battle with a 8-4 record after their 7-2 league win over Eastridge (Rochester, NY).
The Cougars now possess a 8-9 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Wayland-Cohocton for a non-league match on Wednesday, May 16.
Game Summary
Behind the strong pitching of Jeffrey Kay, Sutherland defeated Division III opponent HFL 8 to 3 on Friday. Kay pitched a complete game 3-hitter with 8 strikeouts for his third win of the season. Kay gave up three runs with only two of them earned in the victory.
John Meuchner went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs to pace the offense. His two-run triple got the Knights out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Grant Heyman scored 3 runs and reached base safely 4 times with 3 walks and a single. Sean Menard went 2 for 4 and Kay helped his own cause with a hit and an RBI to round out the offensive attack.
Sutherland is now 6-1 in Divisional play and 15-2 overall.
