First Quarter
A tough defensive game greeted visiting Patagonia in the first round of the Benson Holiday Tournament when they played the host Lady Bobcats Thursday night. Juniors Harlie Berryhill (6 points) and Jerica Moore (4 points, 4 assists), led a balanced Benson squad that had 9 different players score. Benson reversed a two-point halftime deficit to take a two-point lead in to the final quarter before going cold from the floor. The Lobos converted four free throws in the fourth quarter to help ensure the final margin. Benson took a team approach to rebounding in order to counter Patagonia’s size advantage. Sophomore Cori Jackson grabbed 5 boards to lead the Ladycats. Benson also crashed the glass effectively with Junior Annaceli Martinez getting 4 offensive rebounds and Senior Marissa Mabry grabbing 3 others.
Fourth Quarter
Coach Bivens: “The second and third opportunities helped keep it a tight game when our normal shots weren’t dropping. We will continue to learn each time we set foot on the court. Patagonia has been playing pretty strong early in this season. To come out and battle down the stretch shows the strides our girls are making; we’re very proud of them.”
