Maryland High School Basketball - Smith Jewish Day School topples Washington International
December 15, 2011: Rockville, MD 20852 In Thursday's league outing, the Smith Jewish Day School Lions (Rockville, MD) basketball squad beat the visiting Washington International Red Devils (Washington, DC), by a margin of 53-37.
The Lions (2-2) will now prepare for their outing against Washington Christian Academy (Olney, MD). The go into the non-league outing with a 3-5 record.
The Red Devils now own a 1-5 record. They take the field next when they travel to Field for a Potomac Valley outing on Thursday, January 19.
First Quarter
The Lions came out roaring against WIS. Powered by 6 points from Alex Halpern and 4 from John Galitzer the Lions jumped to a commanding 18-6 lead.
Second Quarter
The Lions lost both their defensive intensity and their patience on offense in the 2nd quarter. As a result, they were outscored by WIS 12-10. JDS went to the locker room with a 28-18 lead.
Third Quarter
The Lions came out firing again in the 3rd period and outscored WIS by a 16-10 score. Alex Halpern led the way with 7 points followed by Jesse Zweben with 4.
Fourth Quarter
The 4th quarter saw WIS ramp up the defensive intensity in an effort to get back in the game. The Lions countered with offensive patience which led to a low scoring frame. The teams tied at 9-9 in the final quarter. The final score was 53-37 in favor of our Lions!
