Florida High School Baseball - IMG Academies sneaks past Dr. Phillips
March 27, 2012: Orlando, FL 32819 The IMG Academies (Bradenton, FL) baseball nipped the host Dr. Phillips Panthers (Orlando, FL), 8-7 in Tuesday's non-league contest.
Coming up next, the play the Olympia Titans (Orlando, FL) in a non-league contest, on Wednesday, March 28. IMG Academies will attempt to better on its 12-4 season record. The Titans enter the contest with a 17-0 record after their 15-11 non-league win over Orangewood Christian (Maitland, FL).
The Panthers now sport a 6-10 record. They take the field next when they travel to Montverde Academy for a non-league contest on Wednesday, March 28. Dr. Phillips will play a Eagles squad coming off a 6-4 non-league loss to University (Orlando, FL). The Eagles record now stands at 7-12.
Game Summary
IMG Academies saved some more 7th inning magic for tonight’s game versus Dr. Phillips. After trailing 7-5 with 2 outs and no one on, Alfredo Escalera, Mitch Gallagher, Alfredo Acebal and Gus Polidor each ripped singles (Polidor with 2 RBI) to tie the game. Cameron Varga entered in the 7th on the mound and stranded runners at 1st and 3rd to take the game into extras. A 2 out infield single by Alfredo Escalera scored Eric Myskowski in the top half of the 8th. Varga finished out the Bottom of the 8th to secure the 8-7 win.
The offense was led by Alfredo Escalera who was 4-5. Phil DiLandro was 3-5. Brett Hanewich had one hit along with 2 RBI. Manny Ramirez was 2-3 and Gus Polidor was 2-4. In total, IMG had 14 hits on the day. Cameron Varga (1-0) got the win on the mound to go with his 5 saves on the season.
IMG plays tomorrow at 4:00pm at West Orange HS versus the #7 ranked team in the country, Olympia HS.
