Arizona High School Baseball - Florence loses to Casa Grande
March 7, 2012: Florence, AZ 85232 The Casa Grande Cougars crushed the host Florence Gophers baseball team by a tally of 18-5 in Wednesday's non-league bout.
The Cougars now hold a 6-2 record. They take the field next when they host Hamilton for a non-league bout on Thursday, March 8. Casa Grande will face a Huskies team coming off a 10-0 non-league win over Cibola (Yuma, AZ). The Huskies record now stands at 5-1.
Next, the Gophers face the Globe Tigers (Globe, AZ) in a III Section II bout, on Friday, March 9. Florence will attempt to advance on its 3-2 season record.
Game Summary
Union gave up 16 hits to Hamilton in a 13-3 loss, dropping their record to 6-3.
Union had two hits (finishing with five) in their first at-bats - Elliott’s single and Vicari’s RBI double that trimmed Hamilton’s lead to 2-1.
Hamilton scored five runs in the 2nd (four unearned) to take a 7-1 lead and tacked on two in the 4th, one in the 5th and three in the 7th.
Hamilton starter Murphy went four innings, allowing 1 run, 2 hits, 9 strikeouts and 3 walks. Gallegos pitched two scoreless frames before Union made some noise in the 7th against Lawson.
After Lawson hit the first two batters, Esmay’s groundout put runners at second and third. Both scored on a two-out single by Gutierrez.
Enwiller delivered an RBI single in the first and a run-scoring triple in the 2nd off Union starter Gutierrez, who left after 32/3 innings. Enwiller’s final hit was a two-run single off McCreery in the 7th.
