North Carolina High School Volleyball - Greene Central overwhelmed by Cardinal Gibbons
October 18, 2008: Raleigh, NC 27607 In Saturday's non-league battle, the host Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders volleyball team scored a 3-0 triumph over the Greene Central Rams.
The Crusaders (25-0) will now prepare for their battle against West Stokes (King, NC). The Wildcats come into the non-league battle with a 2-7 record. In their last battle, West Stokes achieved victory over Farmville Central (Farmville, NC), 3-1, in a non-league battle.
Match Summary
Cardinal Gibbons (25-0) advanced to the second round of the NCHSAA 2A state tournament with a 3-0 win over visiting Greene Central (9-12) on Saturday. Gibbons jumped to an 8-4 lead in the third set after winning the first two games but the Rams closed to 12-10 before the Crusaders used a 13-1 run to close the match. Molly Krull had 35 assists and 8 aces and Madison Bugg and Christina Dorismond each had 11 kills for Gibbons.
Michelle Nemesi added 10 kills and Katie Bok pounded out 5 aces. Cardinal Gibbons will host West Stokes (10-10) on Tuesday night in a second round matchup. West Stokes defeated Farmville Central (17-6) 3-1 in their opening round tilt.
