California High School Basketball - Menlo-Atherton overwhelms Leigh
February 28, 2009: San Jose, CA 95124 Fans at Saturday's non-league challenge between the Menlo-Atherton Bears (Atherton, CA) and the host Leigh Longhorns (San Jose, CA), saw Menlo-Atherton's basketball squad trounce Leigh by a count of 60-38.
With the victory, Menlo-Atherton upgrades its record to 18-10 on the campaign. The Bears travel to St. Francis (Mountain View, CA) to play the Lancers in a non-league challenge on Tuesday, March 3. The Lancers come into the challenge with a record of 26-2. St. Francis won 53-33 in their recent non-league challenge against Leland (San Jose, CA)
First Quarter
As was the case in Menlo Atherton's last game they came out aggressively both offensively and defensively to open a 12 point lead by the end of the quarter. Leigh helped by missing some easy shots.
Second Quarter
Leigh made a moderate come back hitting more shots and playing better defense. By halftime Leigh down by 9.
Third Quarter
This was the pivotal quarter. MA scored 21 points holding Leigh to 8. Jeff Keller (2 threes) and Peter Defilipps (1 three) lead the way. Sam Knapp added 5 points in the quarter as he continued his dominant overall play (15 pts, 9 rebounds, 4 steals, 4 assists, 3 deflections).
