California High School Volleyball - Western Christian tips Aquinas
October 27, 2011: Upland, CA 91786 Western Christian Fighting Lancers (Upland, CA) supporters left the game in high spirits Thursday as they observed their volleyball squad hold off the visiting Aquinas Falcons (San Bernardino, CA), 3-2 in a league match.
Next up, the Fighting Lancers clash with the Calvary Murrieta Warriors (Murrieta, CA) in a Ambassador match, on Tuesday, November 1. Western Christian will attempt to better on its 17-8 season record. The Warriors go into the contest with a 11-4 record after their 3-2 league loss to Ontario Christian (Ontario, CA).
With the loss, Aquinas moves to 11-9 on the year. The Falcons travel to Ontario Christian (Ontario, CA) to face the Knights in a Ambassador contest on Tuesday, November 1. The Knights go into the contest with a record of 15-6. Ontario Christian won 3-2 in their recent league contest against Calvary Murrieta (Murrieta, CA)
Match Summary
Aquinas came out very focused in set 1. With teams tied at 9-9, the
visiting Falcons went on a six point run to push the Falcon lead to 15-9. Although
Western Christian fought back back to trail 14-16, Aquinas regained control of
set 1 and won 25-18.
The Lady Lancers came back in set 2 with the set tied at 20-20, the Lady Lancers made a surge
to win the last five points to win the set 25-20. Lyndsey Carruthers had 5 kills and
Brooke Bernard added 4 kills for the Lady Lancers.
The Falcons took command of set 3 and won going away 25-14.
Western Christian regrouped in set 4 and took a 15-12 lead which led
to a Aquinas timeout. The Lady Lancers maintained the lead to 21-17. Despite
another Falcon timeout, the Lady Lancers closed out set 4 25-18 to even the match at 2-2.
In the final set, the Lady Lancers jumped out to a early 7-3 lead. After Aquinas had cut
the Lancer lead to 10-9, Western Christian rolled off two points to push the lead back
to 3 points at 12-9 and won 15-11.
