League recap: Capistrano Valley drops out of California top 25

South Coast league recap: 5/29/12

With a rough week, Capistrano Valley dropped out of the state's top 25 rankings. Capistrano Valley fell from No. 21 to No. 43 after going 0-1 over the past week. The Cougars are ranked No. 306 in the nation, and have an overall record of 20-12.

Andrew Richards was on fire this week, as he led South Coast with a .667 average, one home run and one RBI. The Cougars compiled a record of 0-1 in that time.

Capistrano Valley's pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing 12 hits and one walks to lead the league in both categories. The Cougars' pitchers have been charged with only 201 hits and have struck out 183 batters. Richards is tops on the staff with 46 Ks.

Tesoro led the league in hits this week with 230, but Capistrano Valley is still the season leader, with 268. Kevin Co has a team-high 42 hits on the season for third-place the Titans, which went 0-0 this week.

Newbury Park's Stephen Villines threw seven shutout innings in a 2-0 win over El Toro on Tuesday. He struck out seven, allowing five hits.

Gradeigh Sanchez was the player of the game on Tuesday, with four RBIs in West Ranch's 8-5 victory over Capistrano Valley.
