Woodcreek (Roseville, Calif.)
and
Casa Roble (Orangevale, Calif.)
couldn't stop each other, but eventually
Woodcreek (Roseville, Calif.)
came away with the 49-34 victory.
The Timberwolves scored 21 points in the first quarter on
a passing touchdown
and
two rushing touchdowns.
Woodcreek was up 28-14 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Layton in the first quarter.
WHS saw its 14-point halftime lead fall to 13 entering the fourth.
The final score was a stunner, as the Roseville school was ranked No. 265 in
the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for California, far below the Rams's spot at
182.
The Timberwolves's best player in the win was Layton.
The junior running back
ran for three touchdowns.
Casa Roble's Peyton Wilfley was the standout player for his team during the
game.
The junior quarterback
threw three touchdowns.
This series has historically been close, with Woodcreek holding a 2-4 record
over the past seven games between the two teams. WHS got revenge for last year's
70-54 loss to CR with the victory.
The win was a nice bounce back for the Timberwolves, which lost to Folsom last
week, 68-28. The defeat comes as a step back for Casa Roble, which notched a
28-20 victory over Rio Americano in its previous outing.
In a non-conference game tilt next week Casa Roble (1-1) takes on Fruitland,
and Woodcreek (1-1) will go up against Oakmont in a non-conference game.
