The title of hosting the only Louisiana stop on the 7th Annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard belongs to the West Monroe High School Rebels. The Rebels claimed the Louisiana 5-A State Championship after a 13-2 season and finished No. 56 nationally in the MaxPreps Freeman rankings poll, which through a computer analysis ranks over 16,000 teams throughout the country. The West Monroe Rebels were honored at a Pep Rally at 2:15pm on February 8th in their school gymnasium.

The trophy presentation began with the West Monroe High School cheerleaders and dance teams all putting in great dance routines and performances. After a whirlwind of dancing, MaxPreps representative Jim Redman took over the presentation and proudly explained the successes of West Monroe's football team. Jim then explained the Tour of Champions honor in further detail elaborating on West Monroe's highly ranked position, state championship, and to be one of fifty schools from a pool of 16,000 teams across the country to receive the award is truly a remarkable feat. Jim then turned the microphone over to West Monroe High football alum and Louisiana Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Obie Sims. Staff Sergeant Sims proudly presented Defensive Coordinator Jerry Arledge with the coveted Army National Guard national ranking trophy. Coach Arledge was very appreciative for the national recognition and invited his team up to enjoy in the honor. The ceremony capped off with the school band playing the Alma Mater as the crowd sang along.

Having been awarded its second TOC honor this year, West Monroe is a fantastic high school with outstanding facilities and I would not be surprised if they are another recipient of the Tour of Champions in future years. They love their football, and they excel at the sport. Congratulations to Head Coach Don Shows, and all of the West Monroe Rebels!
