The updated MaxPreps Small Schools National Football Rankings have changed considerably since the preseason rankings released in August as only seven teams from the original list remain.

Marion Local (Maria Stein, Ohio), which was No. 11 to start the season, is the new No. 1 as it takes over the top spot from Trinity Christian Academy (Jacksonville, Fla.), which fell to No. 5. Marion Local has a big in-state win over another small-school powerhouse, Coldwater, which is ranked No. 9.

American Heritage (Delray Beach, Fla.), which was not ranked to begin the season, is ranked No. 2. Due to the new bowl game enrollment divisions in California, El Capitan (Lakeside, Calif.) now qualifies as a small school and comes in at No. 3.

The rankings are based on the MaxPreps computer rankings. For the purposes of this list, small schools are those schools which belong to state enrollment divisions with schools that generally have fewer than 1,000 students.
