The nation’s longest current prep football winning streak ended at 55 games Friday night when
Reidsville (N.C.) was soundly beaten by
Cummings (Burlington, N.C.), 28-7.
Cummings also was the last team to beat Reidsville with a 2006 victory in the state quarterfinals, according to the
Greensboro News-Record.
The Cummings defense held Reidsville to 189 yards and quarterback
Dimitri Haith did the rest by passing for 188 yards and a pair of touchdowns and rushing for the other two.
The longest current win streak still resides in North Carolina.
West Rowan (Mt. Ulla, N.C.) has won 39 straight, followed by
Phoebus (Hampton, Va.) at 37 and three schools at 36:
Alcoa (Tenn.),
Highlands (Fort Thomas, Ky.) and
Southwestern (Jamestown, N.Y.).
