Las Vegas High wide receiver Marquan Major
made a verbal commitment to Idaho this week, according to numerous media outlets.
Major chose the Vandals over UNLV after he visited the Moscow, Idaho, campus last weekend. Major is scheduled to have a home visit with UNLV's coaching staff this week, but told Nevadapreps.com he is solid on his decision.
"I thought about the visit, and I was just sold on Idaho," Major told Nevadapreps.com.
Major said he will have an opportunity to play early for Idaho, which went 6-7 this season and missed out on a bowl game.
"(Idaho) coaches were mad they didn't go to a bowl," Major told Nevadapreps.com. "That's good. You don't want to go to a program where they're used to losing."
The 6-foot-3 Major caught 43 passes for 545 yards and four touchdowns this season as the Wildcats advanced to the Sunrise Region title game. He missed most of his junior season due to a collarbone injury after having 58 receptions for 762 yards and five touchdowns as a sophomore.ATIMALALA SOLID WITH ARMY
Desert Pines (Las Vegas) senior defensive tackle Tala Atimalala
solidified his commitment to Army after attending the Army-Navy game in Philadelphia last Saturday.
Atimalala originally committed to the Black Knights in October.
"That's America's game right there. It was a great thrill, phenomenal," Atimalala told Nevadapreps.com. "Seeing all the cadets, I had a great feeling that that's going to be me in a couple months."
The 6-foot, 265-pound Atimalala was a first-team All Northeast League pick on both sides of the ball. He was also hearing from Brigham Young, Oregon State and UNLV and is expected to play nose guard for the Black Knights.
Atimalala's father, Tala Atimalala Sr., served in the U.S. Army Reserve and the younger Atimalala said serving his country is important to him.
"It's more than just football," the younger Atimalala told Nevadapreps.com. "It's about duty, honor, country."David Schoen works at the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and is a former Associate Sports Editor and Turn2 columnist for the Oakland (Calif.) Tribune. You can reach him at ByDavid1@aol.com.
