The playoffs have arrived in two of New Hampshire's five football divisions, as seedings were finalized in Division III and Division IV last weekend.
ÿ
Milford's 10-7 victory over Portsmouth coupled with John Stark's 45-36 triumph over Souhegan earned Milford the No. 2 seed in Division III. Third-seeded Portsmouth (7-2) will play at second-seeded Milford (7-2) Saturday.
ÿ
"All we knew was that if we won and Souhegan lost we were in as the No. 2 seed," Milford coach Keith Jones said. "If we're playing them again next week, who can wait?"
ÿ
Milford's Charles Kilgore broke a 7-7 tie when he kicked a 24-yard field goal with 4:57 left in the third quarter. The ball hit the crossbar and bounced through the uprights.
ÿ
Portsmouth, which could have earned the No. 2 seed - and a home playoff game - by beating Milford, committed four turnovers in the loss. The Clippers were held to 90 yards rushing in the game, and most of it came on a 58-yard run by fullback Reed Spiller in the third quarter.
ÿ
"They made a statement that they wanted to stop (tailback Rod Walker) because that goes a long way toward stopping us," Portsmouth coach Bill Murphy said.
ÿ
The Milford/Portsmouth winner will face either fourth-seeded Souhegan (6-3) or top-seeded Plymouth (9-0) for the Division III championship. Souhegan will play at Plymouth on Saturday.
ÿ
St. Thomas earned the final playoff berth in Division IV by beating Fall Mountain 42-16 Sunday. Fourth-seeded St. Thomas (6-3) will play at top-seeded Somersworth (8-1) in Saturday's Division IV semifinals. St. Thomas beat Somersworth 10-7 during the regular season.
ÿ
Third-seeded Hanover (7-2) will play at second-seeded Laconia (7-2) in Saturday's other Division IV semifinal. Laconia defeated Hanover 28-27 during the regular season. Hanover is seeking its third straight Division IV title.

Teams that compete in Division I, Division II and Division V have one regular-season game remaining.
