DANVILLE, Calif. - Amador Valley (Pleasanton, Calif.)
had its advantage, which at one point stood at 10 points, drop to three before the final whistle blew on a 24-21 victory over Monte Vista (Danville, Calif.)
The Mustangs pulled ahead on a Nikita Zamora
touchdown run, and subsequently went into halftime leading 14-7. The Dons scored the winning points with a field goal that came in the third quarter.
The result came as a big surprise as Monte Vista came in ranked No. 41 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for California, while Amador Valley was ranked No. 150.
MV's Zamora played well. The junior quarterback threw two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to five on the year.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which the Danville school took, 27-0.
In a East Bay game next week Monte Vista (6-3) takes on San Ramon Valley, and Amador Valley (5-4) will go up against Foothill also in a East Bay game. This story is based on information MaxPreps obtained from Qwixcore reports.
