Well we are less than 24 hours away from the big game. Tomorrow morning is the Odessa Permian pep rally. Midland Lee will hold theirs after school.
Last night, Trevor and I had dinner with our "team": Brian and Alex, the Nike reps who attend all of the games and will be there on Friday. They mentioned that they wanted to set up a team dinner for tonight, but Texas state rules forbid it. SoI'm sure there were many family dinners and low-key gatherings of teammates on the eve of the huge match up.
Today we hit the Midland Park Mall to get some perspective on the local atmosphere on the Lee side of things. We spoke to one man, Randy Thomas, who played on the first Lee team to beat Permian way back in the 60's. If one thing has become clear to us, it's that this rivalry is deeply rooted in history. He described Permian as the team that Lee "loves to hate."
We have yet to get out to Ratcliff Stadium, where the game will be held. Everyone raves about it. The roads here are not built to handle 20,000 people inundating the parking lot. So, from what we've been told, the scene outside the stadium will be like the final shot in Field of Dreams, where a caravan of cars awaits entry to the field.
If you'll be listening to the game on radio, I think we'll be on at halftime. So if you're not lucky enough to be in at the game, be sure to check out the radio broadcast.
Check back tomorrow for results of the game!~SS
