In this week's power rankings, we saw one team go soaring up and another team come crashing down, along with everything in between. Among the action were the efforts of St. Peter's Prep's senior Maasai Maynor, an offensive menace who scored five total TDs.
Welcome
After a comfortable win over Half Hollow Hills East in the match before, West Islip might have felt a bit of anxiety in its most recent match. West Islip came out on top in a nail-biter against Lindenhurst, sneaking past 17 - 14. The result was just as the MaxPreps state rankings suggested, although the scoreline definitely wasn't as one-sided as expected. Thanks to its success, West Islip cracked into the power rankings and now occupies the 25th spot.
Can't Touch This
St. Anthony's's 56 - 32 win over Cardinal Hayes last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Greg Campisi. Campisi tossed the ball for 302 yards and four TDs. That performance made Campisi one of the best players in the power rankings last week.
Movin on Up
It was another game, another high-octane performance for Newtown last week (their 5th in a row). The final score between it and Norwich Free Academy was a 51 - 14 blowout in Newtown's favor. One star in particular for Newtown was senior Dan Mason, who ran for 197 yards and also punched in three touchdowns. The team's efforts were enough to boost its power ranking by 18, which was the most sizeable gain made by any team in the rankings.
This Week's Big Showdown
On paper, the match between St. Joseph Regional (3rd in the power rankings) and Don Bosco Prep (12th) looked as though it might be one of the more compelling ones, but things did not play out that way on the field. St. Joseph Regional blew past Don Bosco Prep 31 - 10. St. Joseph Regional found its leader in an underclassman: Audric Estime earned one touchdown and 129 yards rushing the ball, which was enough to make him one of the team's best players.
