Last night we saw the most exciting game of the tour. Lake Zurich held off the favorite, Wheaton Warrenville South 7-3 in front a large, cold crowd at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, IL.
This was the epitome of smashmouth football. Both teams were focused on the run, both teams had incredible defenses. A short touchdown run by Jon Janus on a 4th & goal play was enough to put Lake Zurich on top.
It was incredible game and outstanding atmosphere. I nearly froze on the sidelines, but was able to look right up into the students' section and see kids with painted chests braving the cold. After the game, they rewarded members or both teams with medals recognizing their achievements. It was really cool to see.
To summarize, the Lake Zurich/Wheaton Warrenville South game was a hard fought battle between two great programs, two class-act coaches, and dozens of courageous players. Even though it was frigid out, Trevor and I are both grateful to have gotten to be a part of it!~SS
