Happy Halloween! Sorry for the belated blog entry. Trevor and I didn't do a whole lot of exciting stuff yesterday. We caught up on some paper work and alot of less interesting stuff, but it slipped my mind amid the last minute scramble to throw together a halloween costume.
I did get a chance to talk to some authorities on high school football around Oklahoma. I spoke to Barry Lewis of the Tulsa World, who has been covering this area for roughly twenty years. He provided some great insight into the nature of football at Union. Barry is also featured in the NFL Films documentary which I got to watch Tuesday night. It's an incredible hour detailing the Union/Jenks rivalry, and Barry's thoughts are front and center. Definitely check it out if you see it on TV.
I also spoke to Van Shea Iven, host of the Oklahoma High School Sports Express show that runs across the state. He reiterated how big football is here in Oklahoma. He told me that the biggest crowd to watch a game on the campus of Tulsa is normally for the Union/Jenks game, as opposed to any game that Tulsa might be playing (save for when they hosted OU this year). Crazy, isn't it?
I will have more to come later today, after Trevor and I head back out to Union!~SS
