Bath County extended the longest winning streak in 3A District 5 this week by beating Western Hills, 35-6. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Wildcats.
Bourbon County's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Dalton Pope threw for 192 and three touchdowns and Jaxson Hilander had 85 yards receiving. On the ground Kentayvus Hopkins chipped in 133 yards. Hopkins helped Bourbon County's passing attack out by catching one ball for 59 yards.
Hilander made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Colonels bested Estill County. The junior grabbed two interceptions.
Powell County's Matt Brooks and Brett Goodwin have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Brooks has thrown for 827 yards this season, while Goodwin, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 22 catches for 491 yards. Hopkins from Bourbon County leads the league in rushing with 676 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when John Hodge's team takes on Garrard County. The Colonels are currently in first, while the Golden Lions are in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Bourbon County takes on Garrard County. The Colonels have allowed 78 points this season, while Mark Scenters's team has given up 106. Bourbon County allowed 14 points last week as it topped the Engineers.
