The regular season was a success, but the real challenge begins now, in the postseason. This Friday Northeastern (11-0) takes on Bertie (4-7) in the first playoff game of the year. Northeastern has been tearing up the end zone with big points in its last 11 contests.
Northeastern can now show off nine landslide victories after its most recent game. It put the hurt on Pasquotank County last week with a conclusive 52 - 0 victory. Northeastern brought some defensive heat, getting to the quarterback for four sacks.
As for Bertie, it was close but no cigar last week, losing to Hertford County 40 - 38. The defeat came about despite a quality game from sophomore Isaiah Williams, who threw for 196 yards and two touchdowns. Williams also tagged on a 48-yard TD reception in the second quarter.
The last time they met, Northeastern really took it to Bertie, winning 48 - 8. Northeastern was able to move the ball a lot more (579 yards compared to 155 yards), a gap Bertie will be looking to close this time around. Can Bertie avoid another defeat? We'll see on Friday.
