Video: The Truth About Trinity — Episode 5
Deion Sanders and the Tigers have one last chance to reach their season long goal.
On a frigid December night in Hewitt, Texas, a five-month journey landed at its final destination.
Deion Sanders gathered his 2017 Trinity Christian (Cedar Hill, Texas)
troops one last time heading into the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Division II state title game against Regents (Austin).
The season before, Trinity Christian floundered through a 4-6 season before bringing in Sanders, the NFL Hall of Fame cornerback turned offensive coordinator, to turn things around.
He brought with him a handful of former NFL players, including head coach Aveion Cason (Rams, Chiefs, Lions and Cowboys) and defensive coordinator Kevin Mathis (Cowboys, Saints and Falcons).
His final message to his team: "Do you understand you have to win state," he said. "I'm not just talking about barely winning state. I'm talking about convincingly. Decisively. A beat down."
He made sure his message was heard loud and clear.
"Do you know what a mean?" he asked.
The team's response: "Yes, Sir!"
"Do you believe?"
"Do you want it?"
"Do you feel it?"
And with that, the stage was set for Episode 5, the last of a MaxPreps five-part feature, "The Truth About Trinity."
A chapter from the MaxPreps Learning from Legends series, the Tigers, led by Nebraska-bound running back Maurice Washington
and freshman quarterback Shedeur Sanders
(Deion's son) show what all the sweat, hard work and preparation was for.
The final episode is filled with raw emotion, big plays and end zone-to-end zone action.
"It's all about finishing," one assistant continually preaches. "Finish what we started. Finish the job. Finish for each other."
