Harvard-Westlake moved up to 78 from 142 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Mission. The Wolverines were able to make the jump by beating St. Paul 44-11.
Cathedral extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating St. Francis, 42-40. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Malik Roberson was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 156 yards on 11 carries as Serra lost to Cathedral. Jalen Greene also contributed to the rushing game with 77 yards on the ground.
Scheper was the best wideout in Mission this week as St. Francis lost to Kevin Pearson's team. Scheper racked up 10 receptions for 175 yards. Evan Crawford helped St. Francis' passing attack out by catching six balls for 86 yards.
Chad Kanoff put up the best numbers through the air as Harvard-Westlake defeated the Swordsmen. He finished with 19 completions for 389 yards and six touchdowns. Kanoff's favorite target this week was Clinton Hooks, who caught seven passes for 144 yards.
Scot Ruggles' team's Kanoff and Hooks have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Kanoff has thrown for 1981 yards this season, while Hooks, a 6-foot-5 receiver, has 38 catches for 557 yards. Terrell Newby from Chaminade leads the league in rushing with 923 yards.
The Wolverines' Kanoff is within 19 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Jim Bonds' team.
The Eagles' Newby is a mere 77 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.
Two highly touted recruits will be in the spotlight when the Phantoms and the Cavaliers meet this week. Cathedral features well-regarded senior Hayden Rettig while Serra has Adoree' Jackson, a sought after junior.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Phantoms take on Scott Altenberg's team. As it stands, Cathedral is in first, while the Cavaliers are in fourth.
