The city sign for Valdosta reads, "Welcome to Valdosta, Home of the Valdosta Wildcats, 23 State Championships and 6 National Championships." What the sign doesn't tell you is that Lowndes is the 2-time defending State Champ and possibly the team to beat in this town. Once again we have arrived in a city where two neighboring teams among their state's best.
Today we went over to Lowndes and watched the team get ready for gameday. Coach McPherson took a few minutes out of his practice to answer questions for us and we got a behind the scenes look at the Lowndes facilities. Lowndes fields a young squad this year but is a solid 4 and 2. Although some would look at Valdosta's record and think this Friday will be a walk in the park for the defending state champs, these guys know better and are not taking this game lightly.
Along with hanging out with the Lowndes guys, we found some time to squeeze in some more free southern food and a radio show this evening. So far this stop has been among our best as we have been spoiled rotten by everyone we meet. The excitement is continuing to build around here and I can't wait for kickoff. Tune in tomorrow for our pre-game predictions and last journal before game-day!
