It was a first! The first time a school from Utah was a stop on the MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard. The tour made its way to Alta High School, the back to back 5-A state Champions. Alta is minutes from the 2009 Sugar Bowl Champions, University of Utah. The school sits at the base of the majestic Rocky Mountains. The Tour of Champions ceremony made an everlasting impression
The ceremony took place at the halftime of a Boys' varsity basketball game. Alta's Athletic Director, Morgan Brown, began the celebration by introducing the MaxPreps representative, Steve Spiewak. The enthusiastic crowd was thrilled to be recognized on a national level. When Steve told the Hawks that he will be watching next years team, the crowd was elated.
Next, they were honored to hear from Lt. Col Adam Robinson of Utah's Army National Guard. He spoke on the importance of working with one vision and one purpose. The fans erupted when Lt. Col Robinson presented, the head coach of Alta's football team, Coach Les Hamilton with the MaxPreps National Rankings trophy.
Coach Hamilton thanked MaxPreps and the Army National Guard for the honor. He also acknowledged that the Army National Guard played a role in their State Championship victories. Alta's football team, annually, attends the Army National Guard's leadership training at Fort Douglas.
The Hawks football team joined Coach Hamilton at center court to receive the trophy. With cameras flashing, the fans cheering and the team together with pride... it was night that won't be forgotten!
