Jacory Harris, Terrelle Pryor and Darrell Scott all concluded spectacular careers by leading their teams to a state championship.
Jacory Harris, Northwestern, Miami, Fla.
Jacory Harris led the Bulls to their 30th straight victory with a 41-0 win over Orlando Boone in the Florida Class 6A championship game. According to the Miami Herald, the Bulls broke the Miami-Dade county record for consecutive wins and also became only the third team in county history to win back-to-back state titles. Harris completed 17 of 32 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns for the Bulls, giving him 222 completions in 333 attempts for 3,446 yards and 49 touchdowns on the season. See Story.
Terrelle Pryor, Jeannette, Pa.
Terrelle Pryor led Jeannette to the first state championship in school history with a 49-21 win over Dunmore in the PIAA Class AA championship. Pryor concluded his career by rushing for three touchdowns, throwing another and catching a touchdown pass. He ran 12 times for 209 yards and completed 3 of 4 passes for 83 yards. He finishes his career with 4,250 yards rushing and 4,249 yards passing, according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. The Jayhawks finish the season as the highest scoring team in state history with 860 points. For the season, Pryor has completed 83 of 124 passes for 1,807 yards and 21 touchdowns. Darrell Scott, St. Bonaventure, Ventura, Calif.
Darrell Scott led the Seraphs to a 35-21 win over Central Catholic in the CIF Division 3 Bowl Game by rushing for two touchdowns and throwing for a third. Scott ran 48 yards for a score in the second quarter to give St. Bonaventure the early lead. He helped the Seraphs maintain that advantage in the fourth quarter with a 10-yard scoring run and a 16-yard pass to Casey Serna. Scott ran 17 times for 150 yards and finishes the season with 2,443 yards on 275 carries with 33 touchdowns. According to the Ventura County Star, Scott finishes his career as the fourth-leading rusher in state history with 7,605 yards. See Story.
Matt Barkley, Mater Dei, Santa Ana, Calif.
Season over. Barkley finished with 213 completions on 340 attempts for 3,561 yards and 35 touchdowns. He was recently named the Gatorade State Player of the Year for the United States, becoming the first junior to receive the honor.
Riley Dodge, Carroll, Southlake, Texas
Season over. The Dragons were eliminated last week by Abilene in the Texas Class 5A Division 2 Region 1 semifinals. Dodge finishes the season with 229 completions in 331 attempts for 3,445 yards and 39 touchdowns. He was named the District 5-5A MVP.
Dayne Crist, Notre Dame, Sherman Oaks, Calif.
Season over. Crist finishes season with 128 completions in 224 attempts for 2,121 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also ran 76 times for 450 yards. For his career, Crist completed 216 passes in 393 attempts for 3,777 yards and 36 touchdowns.
Jermie Calhoun, Vann, Texas
Season over. For the season, Calhoun has rushed for 1,908 yards on 242 carries with 33 touchdowns. He finishes his career with 6,167 yards and 93 touchdowns
Julio Jones, Foley, Ala.
Season over. Jones ended the season with 68 catches for 1,057 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Landry Jones, Artesia, N.M.
Jones led the Artesia Bulldogs to an NMAA Class 4A state championship with a 58-31 win over Goddard. Jones was spectacular in the finals, completing 17 of 30 passes for 301 yards and a state championship game record seven touchdowns, according to the Roswell Daily Record. He also ran the ball six times for 56 yards. Jones finishes the season with 232 completions in 359 attempts with 3,490 yards and 43 touchdowns. See Story.
A.J. Green, Summerville, S.C.
Season over. Summerville lost to Byrnes 48-9 last week in the South Carolina Division 1-AAAA championship game. For the season, Green finished with 77 catches for 1,504 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Michael Floyd, Cretin-Derham Hall, St. Paul, Minn.
Season over. Floyd ends the season with 56 catches, 1,211 yards and 17 touchdown receptions. He was named the Minnesota State Player of the Year by the Minnesota High School Football Coaches Association.
Will Hill, St. Peter's Prep, Jersey City, N.J.
Season over. St. Peter's Prep lost to Don Bosco 42-14 in the NJSIAA/Gatorade Non-Public Group 4 championship game last week.
