Streaks emerged as a common theme during the 2006 season for Texas powerhouse Southlake Carroll. 48-straight wins. Five-straight seasons with 15 wins or more. Three-straight 5A titles.
Add two-straight national titles to that list, as the Dragons finished at the top of the MaxPreps National Rankings for the second-consecutive season.
Southlake Carroll captured its seventh state title with a 43-29 win over Austin Westlake Dec. 23, finishing unbeaten for the third-consecutive year.
The Dragons were led by the father-son duo of head coach Todd Dodge and quarterback Riley Dodge - MaxPreps' 2006 National Player of the Year. The younger Dodge, just a junior, accounted for 5,303 yards and 67 touchdowns.
Southlake Carroll's bid for four-straight will come under new leadership, as Todd Dodge was named the head coach at the University of North Texas Dec. 12, ending his legendary run at the suburban Dallas school.
Including Southlake Carroll, the top seven teams in MaxPreps' final National Rankings finished with unblemished records. No. 2 Jesuit, Ore., No. 3 Wheaton-Warrenville South, Ill., No. 4 Upper St. Clair, Pa., No. 5 Cedar Hill, Texas, No. 6 Blue Springs South, Mo., and No. 7 Warren Central, Ind., combined for a 103-0 mark in 2006.
