Spring football is the perfect setting to tinker with positional changes before summer practice. Two of the country’s top wide receiver recruits are expected to take snaps at quarterback and possibly shift positions in the fall.
Bastrop’s (La.) Rueben Randle, No. 8 in Tom Lemming’s Class of 2009 rankings, and Pahokee’s (Fla.) Nu’Keese Richardson could both start at quarterback next season, in order to best utilize their tremendous offensive talents. Randle would be taking over for Randall Mackey, on his way to Mississippi, while Richardson would fill in for Anthony Sheppard, who has committed to play at Western Kentucky in the fall.
Down on Dade County?
This year’s graduating class in Dade County is certainly one for the record books. The Miami area was brimming with talent at all positions. Most notably, Miami Northwestern produced eight high-end recruits who decided to stay at home to attend the University of Miami.
In 2009, the glut of talent may be in and around Tallahassee. Headlining the group is powerful defensive tackle Jacobbi McDaniel of Madison County. Madison County also has a pair of talented running backs, Chris Thompson and Corey Atkins, who should make the Cowboys one of Florida’s top teams next year.
Not to fear, Miami fans. Dade County should once again be stocked with talent in the 2010 and 2011 classes. Most people around the state already know about sophomore sensations Jeffrey Godfrey (QB, Miami Central) and Jakhari Gore (RB, Columbus). The class of 2011 features potential top recruits Jerron Seymour (Hiahleah), Denzel Perryman (Coral Gables), Rakeem Cato (Miami Springs) and Dwight Jackson and Charles Gainer, both of Miami Central.
What Can Corey Brown Do For You?
In 2008, you can expect Pennsylvania's Corey Brown to have a big year at cornerback. You can also expect Pennsylvania's Corey Brown to have a big year at cornerback.
No, that’s not a typo. Both Gateway (Pa.) defensive back Corey Brown and Cardinal O’Hara (Pa.) defensive back Corey Brown are primed for big seasons this fall. Gateway’s Corey Brown, a rising senior, will also contribute as a wide receiver for one of Western Pennsylvania’s best programs. He has numerous Division 1 offers on the table from the likes of Ohio State, Penn State, and Notre Dame.
Cardinal O’Hara’s Corey Brown, only a sophomore, doubles as a running back, and will take hand offs from one of the nations top returning quarterbacks, Tom Savage. He has performed well at spring combines, and projects to be a top recruit in the class of 2010.
Dragons Reloading
As Dave Krider noted in his National Notebook this week, Southlake Caroll (Texas) fans have been flocking to spring practice, and with good reason. The Dragons are graduating key seniors Riley Dodge and Trey Newton, but do return some impressive young players.
While Plano West (Texas) sophomore Jackson Jeffcoat has garnered much of the attention at the position, Southlake Carroll has a defensive-minded Jackson of its own, 6-foot-4 Jackson Richards. Richards is already committed to Texas Tech, and should flourish on the Dragon defensive line as a junior.
