Video: Xcellent 25 Volleyball Rankings
See MaxPreps host Myckena Guerrero dissect all the movement in this week's rankings.Unbeaten teams from Missouri, Ohio, and Indiana stormed this week's MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Volleyball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard and two teams fell from the Top 10 as their unbeaten seasons ended.
As a result, the Top 25 had its biggest shake up in four weeks.
The unbeatens include a pair of Indiana teams —
Michigan City (Ind.) and
Zionsville (Ind.) — and
Helias (Jefferson City, Mo.) and
Gilmour Academy (Gates Mills, Ohio). Combined the four are 52-0.
Helias has yet to lose a set in 13 victories, Gilmour Academy (10-0) knocked Brecksville-Broadview (Broadview, Ohio) from the Top 25 and Zionsville, featuring a quartet of six-footers, hasn't had a close match in its 12-0 start. Not ranked in the MaxPreps Preseason Top 100, upstart Michigan City is 15-0.
'Iolani (Honolulu) lost two of three matches and
St. Ignatius (San Francisco) suffered its first 2017 defeat and both dropped out of the Top 10.
Despite seeing its 15-match win streak end at the hands of unbeaten
Walton (Marietta, Ga.),
Assumption (Louisville, Ky.) remained in the Top 10. Walton, which started the season at No. 9, continues its upward movement after winning the prestigious Louisville Invitational.
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), the only two-loss team ranked in the Top 10, continued working its way through its brutal preseason schedule with a sweep over a talented Huntington Beach (Calif.) squad. It was Mater Dei's fourth-straight win. In recent weeks, the Monarchs have defeated ranked state rivals Santa Margarita and Archbishop Mitty.
Watch the video above to see how this week's Top 25 shakes out. After having its season interrupted for 10 days by Hurricane Harvey,
Oak Ridge (Conroe, Texas) ran its win streak to eight.
Top ranked
Reagan (San Antonio) has won 10 straight and 51 of its last 53 matches.
Four Top 25 teams will face off in featured showdowns this week with
Marist (Chicago) taking on
Mother McAuley (Chicago) and
Bishop Moore (Orlando, Fla.) visiting
Oviedo (Fla.) in a battle of top 10 unbeatens. The latter match, of course, could be postponed due to Hurricane Irma.
But many eyes will be focused on Las Vegas for this weekend's 23rd annual Durango Classic, considered by many to be the best prep tournament in the country.
The best matchup? We'll have to wait and see, but nine of the tournament's 64 teams are ranked in the Top 25 this week. Twenty teams that were ranked in the Preseason Top 100 are competing, including last year's champion Archbishop Mitty and 2015 champion Assumption.
California has five teams ranked in the Top 25 and Illinois and Indiana have three each. Florida and Texas have two each.
