Tonight Trevor and I had the distinct honor of being guests at the Cinco Ranch Varsity Cheerleader Team Dinner, at the beautiful house of Diana and Rob Anthony, whose daugher Christina is a senior on the squad. Diana reached out to us and extended the invitation, and, not having a home cooked meal in over a month, we were hardpressed to resist.
Trying to be polite dinnerguests, Trevor and I stopped at a French bakery to pick up some cookies and cannolis for dessert. Neither, however, stood a chance against the delicious chocolate cake with white chocolate morsels that Mrs. Anthony baked. I barely had room for that cake, after loading up on some delectable meat lasagna. The food was great, but sitting down at a dinner table and sharing in conversation with a family of people was even more enjoyable.
Ten of the cheerleaders were able to make it. I never realized, but the cheerleaders get as excited for the game as the players. After dinner, they designed decorative megaphones and practiced some cheers. Trevor was fortunate enough to be able to decorate one of the extra megaphones they had. I was lucky enough to receive dance lessons from some of the squad members (video coming soon!).
It was a ton of fun, and was also a really interesting to see the anticipation leading up to a game from a radically new perspective. It goes to show that school spirit totally transcends football players. It includes cheerleaders, regular students, fans, and parents. Mrs. Anthony noted how dedicated the Cinco Ranch parents are. I don't doubt it all...the stands were packed when we dropped by campus Thursday and the sophomore football game was going on.
Trevor and I will be up bright and early to head over to Rhodes Stadium for the game. I absolutely cannot wait. Cinco will be playing with so much heart. They definitely won't beat themselves. If they can execute and slow down the pace of the game, they can keep it close, for sure, and maybe come away with a big upset.
Thanks to everyone down here, especially Mr. and Mrs. Anthony and the cheerleading squad (Chrysta, Christina, Bibby, Kelsey, Stephy, Holly, Sarah, Katherine, Haleigh, and Brita) for hosting us tonight. Another big shout out to Todd Freed, Host of High School Sports Live on Channel 55-The Tube. Todd was kind enough to have us on his show to talk about the National Game of the Week, and tell all of Houston what Trevor and I are doing. His show airs Saturday at 6, and reruns at 6 on Sunday and 7 on Monday. Be sure to watch!!
Check back tomorrow for post-game coverage.~SS
