Video: Highlights of new Georgia commit Elijah HolyfieldThe good, bad and noteworthy from the prep football weekend Sept. 4-6.
Sons of guns*
Elijah Holyfield, son of former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, led
Woodward Academy (College Park, Ga.) to a 36-29 win over St. Pius X in two overtimes. With the game tied at 22-22, St. Pius X scored first in OT, but Holyfield answered with a TD to tie it, before scoring the game-winner. The 5-foot-10, 204-pounder, who is committed to Georgia, finished with 18 carries, 183 yards and four touchdowns.
*
Jordan Kitna, son of former NFL quarterback John Kitna who is also the
Waxahachie (Texas) coach, completed 20 of 27 passes for 309 yards and five touchdowns to move Waxahachie to 2-0 on the season. Kitna has thrown for 631 yards and eight TDs in two weeks.
*
Hunter Rison, son of former NFL wide receiver Andre Rison, did it all for
Skyline (Ann Arbor, Mich.) in its 45-6 win over Okemos. The 5-11, 187-pound junior and Michigan State commit caught two touchdowns, threw for another and had an interception. Skyline is 2-0 on the season after finishing 0-9 last year.
Don't forget grandsonJoe Call picked up the first win of his career on Friday, which immediately put him in second place on his school's list of winningest coaches over the past 64 years. That's because Call coaches at
Summerville (S.C.), where his grandfather, John McKissick, coached for 63 years. Call gained his first victory with a 70-32 win over Berkeley to put his record at 1-2. McKissick won 621 games for the Green Wave before retiring this year.
Top games* In Carolina — both of them — they're still talking about an absolutely wild 31-29 home win for
Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.) over previous No. 7
Mallard Creek (Charlotte, N.C.). Byrnes scored on its first three plays — all connections from quarterback
Micah Young to
Chavis Dawkins — but Mallard Creek made a remarkable rally with 22 fourth-quarter points to take seemingly its first lead with 30 seconds left. What occurred from there will long be remembered.
See story * Rarely does a national Game of the Week live up to expectations, but the 23-22 win for fourth-ranked
DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) over host and No. 19 American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) perhaps surpassed the hype.

Tragedy strikesGrieving continues around Louisiana and specifically Franklin Parish (Winnsboro, La), which lost sophomore Tyrell Cameron, who died from injuries suffered in a Friday night game against Sterlington. Cause of death is believed related to a neck injury. According to the National Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research, Tyrell is the 77th known death on the field of a high school football player since 1995.

McEachern (Powder Springs, Ga.). The loss was the first for Buford since Oct. 2012, according to the Gainesville Times. The 23-point loss is also the worst defeat for Buford since 1999.
* A
Pulaski Academy (Little Rock, Ark.) 40-13 win over
Highland Park (Dallas, Texas) saw the end of a couple of streaks. For Highland Park, the loss was its first home defeat in 17 years. According to the Dallas Morning News, Highland Park had won 84 straight home games. For Pulaski Academy, the contest marked the first time in two years it had to punt in a game. Pulaski Academy coach Kevin Kelley was featured this month on HBO's Real Sports for his refusal to punt on fourth down.
Stat stars*
Leesville Road (Raleigh, N.C.) has lost its last two games, but quarterback
Clay Vick has put up some spectacular numbers. In a 54-48 loss last week to Panther Creek, Vick nearly broke the North Carolina record for passing yards in a game, finishing eight yards short with 659. In an 83-42 loss to Rose (Greenville) on Thursday, Vick threw for another 540 yards and five touchdowns.
* Almost one year to the day that
Holy Family (Broomfield, Colo.) quarterback
Chris Helbig had one of the best outings in Colorado history, Helbig became the first quarterback in state history to throw for over 600 yards. In a 49-43 win over Mountain View, Helbig completed 29 of 45 passes for 607 yards and six touchdowns. The previous state record was 589 yards by Adam Brown of Air Academy, set in 2014. Last year, Helbig threw for 491 yards against Discovery Canyon, which ranked No. 11 all-time in state history.

McNair (Stockton, Calif.), a Boise State commit, is off to a strong start as he already has 10 touchdown receptions on the season. Add that to his 10 catches for 238 yards and six touchdowns in a 74-26 win over Calaveras last week and Grim has 24 catches for 463 yards and 10 touchdowns.
