It's been a good week in the Buckeye State. Ohio State is guaranteed a shot at a national title after a win over archrival Michigan, while Cincinnati's Colerain High used a huge playoff victory over St. Xavier to catapult to the top the MaxPreps/National Guard National Top 100.
Colerain, now 13-0 on the season, was MaxPreps' No. 1 at the end of the 2004 season and finished in the top 50 a year ago. In order to stay put, the Cardinals will have to win another monster postseason meeting, this time against No. 24 Davidson.
Warren Central, Ind., is this week's No. 2, and just one win away from becoming the first Hoosier State school to win four-straight state titles.
Southlake Carroll, Texas, Wheaton-Warrenville South, Ill., and Blue Springs South, Mo., round out the top five.
This weekend's slate will be pivotal in regard to the rankings as six teams in the top 25 face each other - No. 1 Colerain and No. 24 Davidson in Ohio, No. 3 Southlake Carroll and No. 20 Euless Trinity in Texas, and No. 4 Wheaton-Warrenville South and No. 12 Mount Carmel in Illinois.

+ Won state title
Notes: No. 12 Mount Carmel, Ill., snapped Lincoln-Way East's 26-game win streak and will look to capture that state's 8A title Saturday at the University of Illinois.No. 13 Lake City could become the first Idaho team to finish the season ranked in the top 25 of MaxPreps National Rankings.Don't look now, but No. 16 De La Salle, Calif., has run off 18-straight wins.No. 20 Euless Trinity, Texas, has held seven-straight opponents to seven points or less. That probably won't happen Friday against No. 3 Southlake Carroll, who hasn't scored less than 35 points all year.No. 22 Bellevue, Wash., has won 72 of its last 76 games.No. 25 DeMatha, Md., ended its season with a 20-14 win over Good Counsel, setting the Stags up with a 22-game win streak heading into 2007.It took No. 27 Lufkin, Texas, just 31 plays to rack up 58 points in the first half of a 72-24, first round playoff blowout against Klein.Head coach Carlton Flatt of No. 30 Brentwood Academy, Tenn., won his 10th state title with the Eagles' 37-34 win over McCallie.No. 41 Cedar Hill, Texas, won its first playoff game in school history by crushing Dallas Jesuit, 63-7, Friday.No. 47 Carmel, Ind., will get its second shot at No. 2 Warren Central, Ind., in the big-school state championship game Saturday. Warren Central won the first meeting in late September 28-0.No. 55 St. Anthony's, N.Y., ended the season riding a 21-game winning streak and winning its sixth-straight Catholic High School Football League title.No. 69 Hutchinson, Kan., is 35-3 since 2004.No. 76 Lawrence is the first team from Maine to make an appearance in the Top 100 this season. The Bears captured the state A title with one of the more dominant defenses in the Northeast, at least from a statistical standpoint. In 11 games, Lawrence allowed just 56 points, pitching four shutouts along the way.No. 82 Byrnes, S.C., lost to No. 46 Gaffney for the second time in five games, bringing an end to a string of four-straight state titles for the Rebels. Byrnes has lost just three games since 2004, and all three have been at the hands of Gaffney.No. 83 Mullen, Colo., will look to avenge a playoff loss a year ago to Douglas County Saturday in 5A semifinal action. The Mustang offense, led by University of Illinois-bound quarterback Clint Brewster, is averaging 46 points per game this year.Nobody in America has experienced a more dominating postseason run than No. 89 Archbishop Alter, Ohio. The Knights have outscored their first three playoff opponents 104-0.The Jackrabbits are back. No. 92 Long Beach Poly, Calif., has quietly rattled off 10-straight wins after dropping its season opener against Santa Margarita. Poly shutout a solid Mater Dei squad and will have a chance to make another statement Friday against unbeaten No. 45 Notre Dame-Sherman Oaks. The playoffs haven't slowed down No. 95 Auburn, Wash. The Trojans have put up scores of 61, 42, and 47 in three playoff wins, and are averaging over 50 points per game in their last 11 games. Auburn faces No. 22 Bellevue in 3A semifinal action Friday, a game that many consider to be the classification's true championship contest.
