Dunsmuir (Calif.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 9 in California, but was stunned by
Butte Valley (Dorris, Calif.), 25-22. Butte Valley was ranked at No. 27 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for California coming into the week.
After taking the lead on a
Bobby Vaughan touchdown run in the first quarter, the Bulldogs were up 19-14 at the half.
Butte Valley expanded its lead to 11 points entering the fourth quarter. BV's lone score in the quarter came on a Vaughan touchdown pass to
Cade Vercellotti.
Butte Valley's Vaughan scored two touchdowns on the ground in the victory.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which the Tigers took, 47-21.
The defeat comes as a step back for Dunsmuir, which notched a 48-0 victory over Mercy in its previous outing.
