PLYMOUTH, Pa. – Legendary George Curry retired this week as head football coach at Wyoming Valley West High School. During 42 years at three schools he compiled a brilliant 413-91-5 record, finishing his career as the No. 4 winner in high school history.
His Berwick teams won three national championships and quarterback Ron Powlus was the USA Today National Offensive Player of the Year.
“I’ve been swamped – I’ve had over 100 phone calls today,” Curry told MaxPreps Thursday evening. “I’ve shed a lot of tears.”
Curry, who is 64 years old, said health concerns prompted his retirement, which was announced on Wednesday.
