USA Today/MaxPreps National Player of the Week
Lake Havasu City, Ariz., isn't just a Spring Break destination anymore. It's also the home of Lake Havasu High School junior running back Brent Michaels, this week's USA Today/MaxPreps National Player of the Week.
Michaels carried the Knights to a 54-41 victory over Agua Fria (Avondale) Friday night with 470 yards and six touchdowns on the ground on 28 carries. The 6-foot, 227-pound junior scored on runs of 82, 79, 73, 51, 45, and 4 yards.
Agua Fria countered with its own incredible rushing performance as senior Derrick Ross piled up 361 yards and four touchdowns in the losing effort.
For the season, Michaels has racked up 1,179 yards and 17 touchdowns in just five games, leading Lake Havasu to a 4-1 record.
MaxPreps National Team of the Week
Tennessee's Maryville Rebels reached a milestone victory Friday night, but it didn't come easy.
Head coach George Quarles' program extended the nation's second-longest 11-man winning streak to 50 games (tied with Lakeland, Fla.) with a 20-19 victory over cross-town rival William Blount.
The underdog Governors missed a pair of point-after attempts, including one that would have tied the game at 20 with two minutes remaining in the game.
Rebel quarterback Brent Burnette continued a stellar senior season with 270 yards through the air and a touchdown pass in the victory.
