Sandy • Head and shoulders above the rest.

It's an apt description of Bingham center Brandon Carlson's physical attributes when surrounded by Jordan defenders, but also very accurately described visiting Bingham's performance Friday night against the Beetdiggers.

Carlson helped the Miners blow open a tight game with a dominant second half to beat Jordan 69-47 in Region 3 play.

Carlson, who stands 6-foot-10, scored a game-high 20 points, and had seven rebounds and four blocks to help the Miners (14-3, 5-1) blow open a four-point game at halftime and win for the ninth time in 10 games.

"I enjoy it," said Carlson of exploiting his height advantage. "I was feeling it tonight. I felt like if we go through me, we'll get a win tonight. It worked."

Carlson, who stood five inched taller than Jordan's tallest player, scored six points during a 13-2 run to start the third quarter and the defending Class 5A champs never looked back.

Dason Youngblood added 17 points and Lleyton Parker scored 15 points for Bingham, which led 34-30 at halftime. Parker had 11 of those points in the second quarter.

"I think I've put too much pressure on these guys, and [after halftime] we just relaxed and started playing," Bingham coach Jake Schroeder said. "We've won a lot of games, but I haven't felt like we've played our best all year. That second half, in spurts, I thought we played really well."

Josh Christensen had 15 points for Jordan, but only two after halftime. Jordan (10-7, 2-4) was outrebounded 29-13 and didn't score over the game's final five minutes.

Jordan stayed in the game early with long-range accuracy. The Beetdiggers made six of their 10 3-pointers in the first half, including three from Christensen.

Bingham will look to carry the momentum over to Tuesday's showdown with first-place Copper Hills.

"I was proud of the effort," Schroeder said. "When we play loose like that, and get the ball inside, good things happen for us." —
