For one half of Football the Berwick Bulldogs gave thousands of fans a reminder of what is great about high school football and rivalry games. Berwick, who is 2 and 4 on the year, came out firing as they sprinted to a 21-0 lead over the undefeated Spartans. The Bulldogs used everything from onside kicks and fumble recoveries to big plays from QB Gordon Law. All of this gave the Bulldogs a large and truly surprising lead, but right before half the Spartans punched in a score followed by a two point conversion. This helped them not only take eight points into the locker room, but some needed momentum.
The second half arrived, and so did the Spartans. Using their size to break down the Bulldogs, Wyoming Valley West ran the ball up and down the field in route to a 34-0 second half showing. Harry Reese and Pat Resetar were too much for the Bulldogs, and Coach Curry's team is now 7-0 going into a big game next week verses Hazleton. The Bulldogs on the other hand are 2-5, and must win the rest of their games in order to make it to the playoffs.
This week turned out to be a better game than we had expected, but we are now headed to Valdosta, where the winningest program in the nation, Valdosta, goes against the new powerhouse of Georgia in Lowndes. If you have any thoughts on either this week's game, or next weeks game in Georgia, please write us in our journal, and we will be sure to get back to you.
