In Windsor’s highly-anticipated 4A quarterfinal game against Denver South last week, the Wizards’ defense flexed its muscle in the second half en route to a decisive 42-21 victory. No. 8 Windsor (9-3) forced five turnovers overall on the day and had two forth quarter pick-sixes to put the state on notice that they are powerfully equipped in their title defense.

This Saturday, the reigning champs have another challenge in front of them in No. 5 Broomfield, yet another higher-seeded team—and a team that handed the Wizards a 37-25 defeat at home in Week 3.

Joel Kopcow, Corte Tapia and the Windsor defense will have their hands full containing an Eagles offense headlined by senior running back Jalon Torres, while senior quarterback Brad Peeples, junior wingback Brandon Ramirez and the Windsor offense will look for big sparks like the one the Wizards got on the first play of the second half against Denver South, when Peeples busted loose for a 65-yard touchdown run.

Denver Post preps editor Kyle Newman caught up with Windsor coach Skylar Brower to discuss his first year on the job, the Wizards’ semifinal showdown against Broomfield, key defensive playmakers and much more.
