The regular season was a success, but the real challenge begins now, in the postseason. This Friday Oscar Smith (8-2) takes on Cox (6-4) in the first playoff game of the year. Oscar Smith has made scoring difficult for its opponents by holding them to an average of only 8.4 points per game, a benchmark Cox will no doubt hope to clear.
Last week, Oscar Smith took on King's Fork. Oscar Smith's defense put the team in a good position heading into the break, holding King's Fork to a measly zero points. That put Oscar Smith at a 2 - 0 advantage. Unfortunately, the defense lost its edge in the second half, allowing 29 points. The final was a 29 - 23 defeat for Oscar Smith.
As for Cox, it can no longer brag about a perfect record at home. It wasn't too far behind, but it still lost 34 - 28 to Landstown last week. No one was more disappointed by the defeat than junior Tayvion Robinson, who put up a significant resistance with three TDs.
Cox is looking to hand Oscar Smith its first back-to-back losses of the season. We'll find out if Oscar Smith can avoid giving it that satisfaction.
