Emery/Weiner were the big favorite in their most recent match, and for good reason. They took the contest and then some with a 59-14 win on Thursday over High Island. High Island can consider this payback for the 68-70 loss they dealt Emery/Weiner the last time the teams encountered one another.
Emery/Weiner's offense came in ready to rumble, picking up 53 points in the first half. High Island countered with 14 points, leaving the score at 53-14 going into the half. The Emery/Weiner defense stood its ground in the third quarter, giving up 0 and all but finishing the matchup.
No one put up better numbers for Emery/Weiner than senior Josh Strauss, who brought his A game into the match. He passed for 177 yards and 5 touchdowns. Additional support came from defensive powerhouse senior Simon Gerst, who racked up 12 tackles.
Next week Emery/Weiner take on Giddings State at 7:30 PM. Both of those teams have set a high bar for this match after stand-out offensive performances in their previous contests. As for High Island, they will face off against Baytown Christian.
