The regular season was a success, but the real challenge begins now, in the postseason. This Friday Southwest Guilford takes on Statesville in the first playoff game of the year. Southwest Guilford has made scoring difficult for its opponents by holding them to an average of only 10 points per game, a benchmark Statesville will no doubt hope to clear.
Southwest Guilford can now show off five landslide victories after its most recent game. It picked up a decisive 'W' against North Forsyth last week, finishing up at 48 - 3.
As for Statesville, it kept its home record unblemished after another positive outing on its own turf. It was able to grind out a solid victory over West Rowan last week, winning 34 - 24. Senior Bryant Young had a wowing 318 passing yards passing yards in the victory.
Their wins bumped Southwest Guilford to 8-3 and Statesville to 9-2. Of course, Southwest Guilford and Statesville can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Friday which team falters and which extends its success.
