Big 8 recap September 10, 2013
Josh Fronabarger of Aurora ran for the longest rushing play in Big 8 this season against East Newton last week. Fronabarger's team bested the Patriots as he sprinted for 94 yards on the play and finished with 203 in all.
Carl Junction moved up to 52 from 94 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bulldogs were able to make move up by besting Carthage 63-32.
Seneca's dynamic duo of Payton Rawlins and Chance Smith proved tough for Lamar to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Rawlins threw for 299 yards and 3 touchdowns and Smith had 139 yards receiving. Braxton Graham helped Seneca's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 125 yards.
The Indians' dynamic duo of Rawlins and Smith proved to be unstoppable against the Tigers, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
He was 13-30 with 3 interceptions.
Smith was the best wideout in the league this week as Seneca fell to Lamar.
Kris Bird was a key player and the best on defense this week as Carl Junction topped the Tigers. The 6-foot-2 senior.
Fronabarger was the most successful running back in Big 8 this week. Dylan Cullers also contributed to the rushing game with 69 yards on the ground.
Rawlins put up the best numbers in passing as Dan Scheible's team lost to Scott Bailey's team.
Dustin Satterlee was a passing and rushing force as Doug Buckmaster's team topped Carthage. He completed 11 passes for 133 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 181 yards. Satterlee's key target this week was Matt Magee, who caught 6 passes for 56 yards.
The Indians' Rawlins and Smith have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Rawlins has thrown for 655 yards this season, while Smith has 10 catches for 259 yards. The Bulldogs' Satterlee leads the league in rushing yards with 263.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Seneca's Smith goes up against Aurora's Tristan Dunning.
Next week's game between the Indians and Rick Scholten's team will feature a good passing match up as Rawlins will test his arm against Dunning's defensive ability.
The Tigers are in second place, while Cassville is in fourth place.
The Wildcats were the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from seventh to fourth in the league. Earlier in the week, Cassville triumphed over McDonald County 45-7.
