You might not recognize the power rankings this week after a busy last week rearranged the teams a whole lot. Part of the action? A towering 122-point combined score for Broomfield and Longmont.
Can't Touch This
La Junta's 40 - 6 win over Berthoud last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Jon Nuschy. Nuschy ran for 217 yards and also punched in four touchdowns. That performance made Nuschy one of the best players in the power rankings last week.
This Week's Big Showdown
On paper, the match between Palmer Ridge (12th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Discovery Canyon (31st) looked as though it might be one of the more compelling ones, but things did not play out that way on the field. The final score between Palmer Ridge and Discovery Canyon was a 42 - 0 blowout in Palmer Ridge's favor. 42 is shaping up to be Palmer Ridge's lucky number as the team posted the same point total in its win over Lewis-Palmer the game before.
Movin on Up
It was another game, another high-octane performance for Regis Jesuit last week (their 6th in a row). It had all the answers against Smoky Hill, winning 48 - 14. One of the main ringleaders for Regis Jesuit was senior Kiahn Martinez, who rushed for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Regis Jesuit's success was rewarded with a nine-spot boost in the power rankings, the biggest improvement of any team.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Fairview (11th in the power rankings) and ThunderRidge (10th). Both teams are entering with last-week wins under their belts. Only one team will win this week, so we'll find out on Friday which team fails to repeat its success.
