Benson were successful in their last outing against Tombstone, and they didn't afford Tombstone any payback this time around. Benson steamrollered Tombstone 44-6. Followers of Benson probably expected little less of the squad in a season in which they have collected four blowout victories.
Benson's offense rushed out of the gates and came up with 38 first-half points. Meanwhile, Tombstone couldn't get anything going offensively, leaving the score at 38-0 heading into the break. The Benson defense stood its ground in the third quarter, giving up 0 and all but finishing the contest.
No one put up better numbers for Benson than junior Dondre Villalobos, who brought his A game into the match. He rushed for 77 yards and 2 touchdowns. They also got a significant boost from junior Carson Barney, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 112 yards. The win bumped their record up to 4-2. The loss dropped Tombstone back to even at 3-3.
Next week Benson take on Round Valley at 7:00 PM. Those two teams have set a high bar for this matchup after stand-out offensive performances in their previous contests. Tombstone will look to defend their home turf against Bisbee at 7:00 PM. Those two teams have had a rocky road up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.
